Drs Shipper and Heffernan started their search for the right location for their new practice in the Sydney CBD in late 2007. “We started to look around and thought about leasing, but given the amount you need to invest in a fit-out, we decided to buy premises,” Dr Heffernan said. “We were told that it would be difficult to find what we were looking for but in January 2008, we managed to find what has turned out to be the ideal site.

Anne was very open to discussing our own ideas about what we wanted to do with the property as well as offering her own invaluable knowledge and experience. We loved the deco style of the building which we wanted to retain while also modernising it. We wanted more treatment rooms than the old practice and we wanted it all to flow properly. Anne took all of that on board.

Dr Steve Moate and Dr Roger Hammond studied their orthodontic speciality together and became friends during the course. At some level,studying together seems to be a good test of future professional compatibility. So, as often happens, studying together led to working together. They opened their first practice at Forestville, a family orientated suburb located on Sydney’s North Shore. They converted a well-positioned house into a three-surgery practice. After establishing the practice over a number of years, they felt it was time to open another practice that would allow them to offer their services to a broader area of the North Shore encompassing the Northern Beaches.

The attraction of shopping centres is the exposure to the enormous volume of passing trade, central location and easy parking. Levitch Design Associates were commissioned to design a dental and eye care centre. The site came with some problems, including a change to the floor level of about a metre in the middle of the once multi-tenanted premises. LDA recommended the installation of a raised floor, as change in internally levels is very hard to treat with ramps or stairs without loosing substantial space.

Most are located in NSW with a concentration in the Newcastle and Hunter Valley region north of Sydney, where PSG commenced operations. nib health funds limited (nib) also originated in Newcastle so it was not surprising that in 2004, PSG acquired the rights to operate the nib Dental Care Centres in Hunter Street, Newcastle and George Street, Sydney.
